Holidays

This is a list of holidays in Latin American countries and the different dates in which they are celebrated. Holidays that are celebrated on Saturdays or Sundays (such as Easter Sunday) have not been included. Please, take into account that some mistake or omission could have been made.

Furthermore, the following regional particularities must be noted:

- There are dates that are not official holidays although tradition has turned them into non-working days, such as the Day of the Guadalupe Virgin in Mexico (December 12) or Carnival Monday in Brazil.

- In Uruguay there are certain days that used to be holidays, but which are no longer considered such, although in practice all economic activity is relatively reduced. This is the case of the rest of Carnival week and Holy Week.

- Uruguay also has work holidays in which the entire educational system, governmental organizations and banks are closed whereas private activities continue to function normally.

- The same thing happens in Argentina regarding optional holidays (companies can choose whether to adhere to them or not).

- Some countries are not very consistent regarding the shifting of holidays to working days or to the beginning/end of the week (as is the case in Argentina).

- There are commemorations that are official on some years and not on others (such as the case of April 2 in Argentina)
